
今日は朝からアシェット婦人画報社で打ち合わせ。
表参道近く、できたてほやほやのビルに今週アタマに移転したばかりです。
古くから日本を代表する高級路線の女性雑誌である婦人画報の版元。美しいキモノ、25ans、ELLE、マリ・クレール、メンズクラブなどで知られる出版社ですが、ずいぶん前からフランスにある世界最大の雑誌出版社であるアシェット・フィリパッキ・メディア傘下の外資系企業。ちなみに、アシェット・フィリパッキ・メディアは、フランスの巨大企業グループであるラガルデールの傘下。正確にはラガルデールの下のラガルデール・アクティブの下。出版界は広大だ。
以前のオフィスは虎ノ門と新橋の間、愛宕下通りのねずみ色っぽいオフィス街にあったのですが、今度の場所は“モードのお仕事”っぽくて、よい感じです。

婦人画報社が外資系になってるとは知りませんでした。
昔、広告の仕事をしていたころ、広告のスペースを抑えるのが最も難しい雑誌のひとつでした。
もうひとつ、同じくらい難しかったのがMOREでしたね。 中小の広告会社とか、出稿量少ない広告主なんて見向きもされなかったと思います。
今、印刷媒体の広告ってどうなんでしょう。 やはり減ってるんでしょうね。
たしか、私が佐藤玖美さんのwomenjapan.comをお手伝いしていたころはすでにアシェット傘下だったと思いますから、外資系になって少なくとも10年近いはずです。
印刷媒体の広告はどこも大変そうですけど、ここの媒体に限って言えばあいかわらずグローバルな広告主さんがついているように見えます。

Glam Media to Announce Acquisition

Glam Media, the largest U.S. Web property aimed at women, plans to announce Tuesday that it has acquired London-based digital-marketing firm Monetise Ltd. to jumpstart its global ad-selling. Within a year, Glam says it will have ad operations up and running in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, India and China.
Monetise, which was founded three years ago, sells ads on behalf of top entertainment sites in the U.K., including Flixster, ARTISTDirect and TVGuide.co.uk. The company’s 17 employees will form Glam’s U.K. team, which plans to replicate the business model Glam started in the U.S. Monetise founders Joel Cymberg and Jon Walsh are staying with Glam.
Launched in 2005, Glam has built a stable of Internet sites geared toward women and designed to attract premium-brand advertisers, with features on topics such as fashion, beauty and entertainment. It also sells ads on more than 450 partner sites in related areas, ranging from fashion site SheFinds.com to celebrity site Hollyscoop.com.
In May, Glam was the most popular women’s site in the U.S., reaching 42 million unique U.S. visitors in May, according to Web-measurement firm comScore.
After Glam raised $65 million from investors and an additional $20 million in debt earlier this year, building its international ad-sales operations became a top priority for the site.
Terms of the Monetise deal weren’t disclosed, but it is expected to bring in $25 million to $45 million of U.K.-based ad revenue next year.
Glam expects $100 million in revenue in 2008, growing to $250 million to $350 million next year. "This will be the year that Glam goes global," says Samir Arora, Glam’s chairman and chief executive.

COMPETITORS – Glam Media Uber Alles: Expanding Into Germany, Buying Munich’s Codex Media

Glam Media is opening a German site with help from its backer Burda Cross Media. Glam is also getting some extra assistance from its latest acquisition, Munich-based digital marketing firm Codex Media, the company announced. Terms were not disclosed. The move is part of a wider European expansion Glam has been pursuing lately, including last month’s acquisition of London-based online ad sales rep firm firm Monetise.
Codex founder Katja Dalhöfer will serve as director of sales for the new Glam Media GmbH. Ralf Hirt, VP of International for Glam Media and formerly a senior executive at DoubleClick, will serve as managing director of the new German unit. Codex is kind of similar to Monetise and is a fairly small company with only four employees. It’s not technically considered a women’s ad network, since its traffic isn’t assigned to it that way, but Glam felt that its reach in the German lifestyle and entertainment area was enough to be interesting. The expansion also comes a few months after Glam’s $84.6 million in funding back in February, which included $64.6 million in fourth round venture funding and $20 million in revenue-based debt financing.
